Review of 'Where the Wild Things Are'

Since you guys apparently like it when I write reviews of things, I'll do it some more!

'Where the Wild Things Are' is based on a beloved children's book, and is about a young boy,Max, who gets in a fight with his mother and runs away to a far off land where there are lots of monsters. He becomes their king and helps them build a fortress. At first, they all have a great time with each other, sleeping in a big pile and playing games. But soon, things start to go wrong when one of the monsters, Carol, gets angry because KW, another monster, has two new friends and is threatening to move away. One night, Carol gets so angry he threatens to eat Max so he has to run away. The next morning he goes home to his mother, who is so relieved to see him she gives him chocolate cake. I was only luke warm on this film. It was very deep and very profound. It really didn't seem like a kids movie. But, after you give it some thought, this movie is thought provoking. You realize that all of the monsters represent parts of him and his life, like carol is him, KW is his mom, Bob and Terry, KW's new friends, are his mom's new boyfriend, and the rest are all aspects of Max's personality. I was like he went on a journey to self enlightenment, and learned to appreciate his mom a lot more. The special effects and music were both really cool. However, to me, it seems like he messed up things at his home, left, messed up things in the other world, left, and came back to his mom. It wasn't my favorite movie, but it was definatly good. If your in the mood for something with childlike wonder and innocence, though, i would look elswhere.
