What this is all about

As you've probably noticed, what I mostly do on this blog is rant about whatever comes to mind. I, however, also like to do creative writing things, such as short stories and poetry. Therefore, I'm going to create another blog. This one is for my rants, and the other one shall be for my artsy things. I'll leave a comment with the address once it has been created. Check it out!

Accelerated Reader Makes Reading a Chore!

Accelerated Reader, more commonly known as A.R., is a program in which students are assigned a level of reading comprehension, tested on books, and given points for their reading. In many ways, A.R. is a fantastic program. It can motivate kids to read things they wouldn't normally, and give kids a reward for remembering what they've read. However, it makes reading homework, instead of a recreational activity. Personally, I love to read, but I don't necessarily always read what is in my level (considering it's high enough that it's mostly biographies *bragbragbrag*). I'm also less keen to read when I feel that I have to. A.R. is a useful program, but I think reading is something kids should be encouraged to do, not forced.
