Book Reveiw: Uglies, By Scott Westerfield

CAUTION: THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

This book is set far in the future, after our generation is long gone. People are raised to think that only one kind of beauty is true beauty, and every other look is ugly. So from the time you are twelve to the time you turn sixteen, you are considered an Ugly. But when you turn sixteen, you get an operation that gives you super model good looks. What could be wrong with that? That is what Tally Youngblood always thought, and her entire Ugly life she looked forward to turning sixteen. But just a few month before she is to turn Pretty, she meets a new friend, Shay, who doesn't want to become Pretty. When Shay decides to run away, Tally must either betray her best friend, or never turn Pretty at all. But Tally is beginning to learn about a new side of the pretty world, and she's not sure she likes it. Her choice will change her life forever....

The Uglies series has givin Harry Potter a run for it's money as my favorite series. Well, more like a jog, nothing will ever compare to the amazing works of J.K. Rowling, don't worry, but I have LOVED this book, and I can't wait to read the next in the series, Pretties. I loved Scott Westerfield's somewhat melancholy take on the future and how being 'beautiful' can effect your mind as well as your body. The only flaw I found with this book was that it seemed to end at a crucial part. However, I assume that will be fixed by the rest of the series. I would highly recommed this book.
